“Ashutosh Sharma’s 66* Seals DC’s Dramatic IPL Victory”

Ashutosh Sharma’s unbeaten 66 steered Delhi Capitals to a stunning victory in their IPL 2025 opener against Lucknow Super Giants.

DC won the toss and chose to bowl. LSG’s innings began with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh facing Mitchell Starc. Marsh smashed a six off the last ball of the first over, while Markram played steadily. Axar Patel kept it tight in the second over, conceding just five runs, but Starc leaked 21 in the third. DC lost a review in the fourth over when Axar’s LBW appeal against Marsh was upheld. Vipraj Nigam struck in the fifth, dismissing Markram for 15, leaving LSG at 50/1 after five overs.

Nicholas Pooran and Marsh then accelerated, taking LSG to 98/1 by the eighth over. A dropped catch of Pooran by Sameer Rizvi in the seventh proved costly. The pair pushed LSG to 117/1 after 10 overs. Mukesh Kumar broke the 87-run stand in the 12th, dismissing Marsh for 72. Pooran, however, smashed 28 runs in the next over, racing to a 23-ball fifty. Kuldeep Yadav removed LSG’s captain for a duck in the 14th, and Starc dismissed Pooran for 75 in the 15th, reviving DC’s hopes. David Miller’s 27 off 19 helped LSG finish at 209/8.

DC’s chase stumbled early, with Thakur dismissing Fraser-McGurk (1) and Abishek Porel (0) in the first over. M Siddharth removed Rizvi (4) in the second, piling on pressure. Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel tried to rebuild, but Dinesh Rathi dismissed Axar (22) in the sixth. Du Plessis held firm until Ravi Bishnoi ended his knock. Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma then steadied the ship, taking DC to 101/5 after 12 overs. Stubbs hit two huge sixes in the 13th off Siddharth but fell soon after. Ashutosh and Vipraj Nigam kept the fight alive, but Rathi dismissed Nigam (39) in the 17th, denting DC’s hopes.

Undeterred, Ashutosh Sharma’s unleashed a breathtaking assault in the final three overs, finishing unbeaten on 66 and guiding DC to a dramatic one-wicket win over LSG.
