Former Australian cricketer and ex-Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Matthew Hayden faces a tough choice. Hayden, who played three successful years with CSK, won the Orange Cap in 2009, and lifted the IPL trophy in 2010, has always shown his support for the team. However, he was asked a tricky question:

Would he rather see CSK win the IPL 2025 but Australia lose the next Ashes series to England, or Australia win the Ashes but CSK finish last in MS Dhoni’s final IPL season?

Matthew Hayden had a funny reaction to the question, calling it a “horrible question.”

However, he eventually chose his country over his IPL team. Hayden said that losing to England is never an option for Australia, so he picked Australia winning the Ashes, even if it meant CSK finishing last in MS Dhoni’s final IPL season.

Dhoni hasn’t confirmed if IPL 2025

Dhoni hasn’t confirmed if IPL 2025 will be his last season. The 43-year-old was retained by CSK for ₹4 crore before the IPL 2025 mega auction, thanks to a rule allowing players who haven’t played international cricket for five years to be retained as uncapped players.

Australia will play England in a five-match Ashes series from November 2025 to January 2026.

A month before IPL 2025, Dhoni hinted that he might continue playing for a few more years. Speaking at the launch of his app, he said:

“I just want to enjoy cricket for the last few years that I can play. I want to enjoy it like I did as a child, playing in the evenings after school.”

Dhoni started IPL 2025 in style as CSK defeated their biggest rivals, Mumbai Indians (MI), in their opening game. He was at his best behind the stumps, thrilling fans by stumping Suryakumar Yadav with his lightning-fast reflexes.
