In Lahore, a historic city, the Gaddafi Stadium—named after the Libyan leader—was fully upgraded in 1995-96 for the 1996 World Cup. A well-known architect, Nayyar Ali Dada, redesigned it with red brickwork and arches inspired by Mughal style. The stadium now has plastic seats instead of concrete benches. The area under the stands was closed off and turned into shops and offices. It’s also the first stadium in Pakistan with modern floodlights that have backup power. Plus, it has new facilities for the media.
