Justin Langer, head coach of Lucknow Super Giants, disclosed that fast bowler Mayank Yadav is dealing with a toe infection but anticipates his return sometime during IPL 2025.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav has encountered yet another injury, further postponing his eagerly awaited return to competitive cricket. Mayank has faced a string of injuries since his impressive IPL debut last season, where he claimed player-of-the-match honors in his first two matches for LSG, consistently bowling over 150kph.
Justin Langer, head coach of LSG, remains optimistic that the 22-year-old will recover and play toward the tournament’s latter stages.

“Mayank, who generated a lot of excitement last year, was making good progress recovering from a back injury when he stubbed his toe on the bed, leading to a toe infection,” Justin Langer explained on Sunday. “This has delayed his rehab by about one to two weeks. Still, he’s back on his feet and running. “We often receive videos of him bowling—I saw one yesterday. Hopefully, by the tournament’s later stages, Mayank will fully prepare and play for us.”
LSG kick off their IPL 2025 campaign today against Delhi Capitals in Vizag. However, the team will miss four of their top Indian fast bowlers—Mayank Yadav, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan—due to various injuries. Recently, Mohsin stepped aside for the entire season, and all-rounder Shardul Thakur took his place as the replacement.
“Yes, we know that four of our bowlers won’t be available for the opening match, and a couple might miss a few more games down the line,” Justin Langer said. “But that’s the nature of sport and cricket—fast bowling often brings challenges, and you have to adjust. We’ve all been in this game long enough to understand that fast-bowling injuries are something you always plan for. You don’t hope for it or want it, but you ready yourself for it. So, we may need to tweak our strategy a bit, but as the tournament progresses, we expect some of these talented bowlers to return and strengthen our attack.”
